The IMVG (Irish Military Vehicles Group) is the largest group of its kind in Ireland. We have approx 50 members who in turn have approx 40 vehicles between them. These vehicles range from a WW2 era motorbikes to a 55 ton Chieftain main battle tank. All of our vehicles are privately owned and maintained by our members.
Our reason for existence is to promote a wider awareness of the forgotten Irish men and women who served, fought and died in the Great War 1914-1918. Most people do not know about the large numbers from all parts of Ireland who took part in that dreadful conflict nor of the impact of their involvement at personal and national levels. We believe that a better understanding of the shared heritage of sacrifice now will help to reconcile the two major traditions on the whole of this island.
The aims of the MVCI are to support the Restoration, Preservation and Display of Military Vehicles. You don`t need to have a vehicle to become a member, you only need to have an interest in Military Vehicles. There is no commercial or political involvement in the Club and the proceeds of our Shows are donated to Charity.
We use highly accurate reproductions of the equipment and dress of the Roman Army and drill and display through the use of Latin.
The name of our group is Legion Ireland - The Roman Military Society of Ireland (RMSI) and portray a Vexilation or detachment of soldiers from the 20th Legion.
Keeping the spirit of Viking combat and medieval traditions alive in the 21st century.
